Positive Youth Development and Civic Engagement – 5:30 pm
This interactive workshop will provide participants with leading-edge insights on the important role civic engagement plays in the positive development of youth into active citizens, future community leaders, successful students and viable participants in America’s workforce. The content of this workshop has particular salience for youth with limited access to civic engagement opportunities. Dr. Peter Levine of Tufts University, a national authority on youth civic engagement, will moderate a discussion with a panel of practitioners and experts, representing creative, promising and proven local youth development initiatives that include civic engagement as a core feature.
Intelligence-Led Policing with Neighborhood Watches – 6:00 pm
The Champaign Police Department will provide an overview of Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP), a policing model that focuses on a future oriented and targeted approach to controlling crime. They will also show you how to access neighborhood crime data via crimereports.com, access police media reports on champaignpolice.com, in addition to providing information on how to get the most up to date police news on the department’s Social Media accounts and receive the information before the rest of the public.
Homeowner Board Basics: Legal Requirements and Best Practices – 6:00 pm
The Illinois State Chapter of Community Association Institute (CAI) is an advocacy and policy organization whose mission is to educate and promote the use of best practices among homeowner associations (HOA). Representatives from CAI will present an informational workshop on board basics and responsibilities for HOA leaders.
