Home Repairs

The City offers a number of programs for helping with home repairs and housing safety, including caulk and paint assistance, emergency repairs program, lead-based paint information, and more.

Homebuyer Assistance

The City of Champaign, in association with the Illinois Housing Development Authority and participating lenders, offer assistance to individuals purchasing homes within the City. Central Illinois Debt Management and Credit Education, Inc. (CIDMCE)

The primary focus of Central Illinois Debt Management and Credit Education, Inc. is to provide community services dedicated to financial literacy.

Rent Assistance

The Housing Authority of Champaign County (HACC)helps provide homes for low income families. More information is available on the HACC website.

Tenant-Based Rent Assistance Program

Using City of Champaign HOME funds, Champaign County Regional Planning Commission is offering a limited number of slots for homeless or low-income households to enroll in a program to significantly improve household self-sufficiency within 2 years.

  • Preference is given to applicants who live or work in the City of Champaign, or are homeless, or are near homeless living with a relative or friend.
  • Household income must be under 60% of area median income ($27,400 for single or $39,100 for family of 4).
  • Participants must be willing to work with case managers to successfully develop and implement goals that may include steps to manage a budget, repair credit, complete educational classes, improve employment, or other activities to improve self-sufficiency.

Rent assistance will be used as one tool to support households working toward their goals.
