City planners work to improve the quality of life of people and the communities where they live. They work with residents to envision the future of their city by creating the right balance of new development with the preservation of existing neighborhoods.
The Land Development Division is responsible for development management, zoning administration, mapping, and graphics.
Long range planning is carried out by the Long Range Planning Division of the Planning Department. Long-range planning studies the impacts of growth and development on the city and sets a vision for the community.
Champaign promotes economic stability and growth through sound planning and development programs including Industrial Development incentives, Enterprise Zone incentives, Tax Increment Finance Districts, development programs in the downtown and campustown and capital improvements planning and construction.
