2013 Road Restriping Projects

State Street from Hessel Boulevard to Fox Drive

State Street from Hessel Boulevard, south to Fox Drive, will be restriped in the construction season of 2013. This restriping will include bicycle accommodations. From Hessel Boulevard to Kirby Avenue, the restriping will include bicycle lanes on both sides of the street, with parking on the west side of the street.  Any on-street parking on the east side of State Street for Hessel Boulevard to Kirby Avenue will be removed.  From Kirby Avenue to Fox Drive, bicycle lanes will be striped on both sides of the street. This section does not currently have on-street parking.

This project will continue the existing markings on State Street as part of the State Street and Randolph Street bicycle network.  When the project is completed this will also link to Mattis Park and the Boulware Trail trailhead at Fox Drive.

John Street from Prospect Avenue to Kenwood Drive

John Street from Prospect Avenue, west to Kenwood Drive, will be restriped in the construction season of 2013.  This restriping will include bicycle accommodations.  From Prospect Avenue to Russell Street the lanes will remain the same.  Bicycle ‘sharrows’ or share -the-road arrows will be painted on the street, along with signage.  From Russell Street west to Kenwood Drive, travel lanes will shift north and bicycle lanes will be added.  In this area, parking will no longer be allowed on the north side of the street.  The parking lane will remain on the south side of John Street.  This will preserve the current pick-up and drop off circulation for Westview School at the intersection of John Street and Russell Street.

This will continue the existing markings on John Street.  When the project is completed, John Street will create a bicycle connection linking four schools and parking amenities.  These include:  Southside Elementary School, Westview Elementary School, Centennial High School, Jefferson Middle School and Centennial Park.
