Curtis Road 2010 Construction Open House Notice
PUBLIC INFORMATION OPEN HOUSE NOTICE
for the
Curtis Road Project
The City of Champaign will be holding an OPEN HOUSE at Barkstall Elementary School on Monday, March 15, 2010, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM to provide information about the upcoming Curtis Road construction work and road closure.
Road construction activities for the Curtis Road (Wynstone to Wesley) Project are expected to resume this month. This year the contractor will complete the section of Curtis Road from Wynstone Drive to Mattis Avenue and rebuild the Curtis-Mattis intersection with turn lanes and new traffic signals. This is the last phase of the $11 million construction project that builds 4-lanes of Curtis Road from Wynstone Drive in Champaign to Wesley Avenue in Savoy.
On March 22, 2010, weather permitting, the contractor will close Curtis Road between Wynstone Drive and Mattis Avenue to all traffic. The Curtis-Mattis intersection and Curtis Road east of Mattis Avenue to Savoy will remain open to traffic during the closure.
The current main access drive to Barkstall Elementary School (Hallbeck Drive) from Curtis Road, will not be available during the time Curtis Road will be closed between Wynstone and Mattis. Access to Barkstall Elementary School will be available from Wynstone Drive during the closure. (See map reverse side)
The contractor is anticipating that access to the main drive for Barkstall Elementary School (Hallbeck Drive) via Curtis Road will be restored prior to the start of the 2010-2011 Barkstall Elementary School academic year near the end of July. Later in the summer, the Curtis-Mattis intersection will be closed to all traffic to rebuild the intersection with turn-lanes and new traffic signals. The duration of the intersection closure is limited to a maximum of 60 days. During the intersection closure, access to Carle Clinic will be available from the east on Curtis Road and from the south on Mattis Avenue south of Curtis. The road and intersection closures are necessary to allow the contractor to build the new road in the safest, quickest, and most cost efficient manner. The City of Champaign would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience during this project.
