TAKE THE SURVEY: Shape the Vision for Champaign’s Future
The City of Champaign needs your help to shape Champaign’s future. The Vision and Guiding Principles survey will be available at www.champaigntomorrow.com from Tuesday, September 1 – Friday, September 18, 2009. The survey is part of the Champaign Tomorrow project and the results will be used to update the Comprehensive Plan, the document that will guide the growth and development of Champaign over the next 20 years.
City Staff developed the draft Vision statements and Guiding Principles from the results of an earlier online survey. Over 650 people participated in the Places Survey, which asked participants about the places they live, shop, work and play in Champaign. There are seven Vision statements that describe how Champaign should be in the future, if good city planning policies are followed. Each Vision statement has specific Guiding Principles. Guiding Principles address the key topics that the community values.
Input is essential to the Champaign Tomorrow process. “Public involvement is very important, because the Comprehensive Plan represents what residents want their community to be like as it grows and changes,” says Rob Kowalski, Assistant Planning Director for the City of Champaign. “Those values are transformed by city planners into actions and policies to ensure that Champaign continues to be a great place to live,” he continued.
