Bicycles for Not-for-Profit Organizations
Earlier this year, Council adopted a City Ordinance amendment allowing staff to transfer seized or abandoned bicycles to not-for-profit organizations. The Ordinance allows bicycles to be transferred after 60 days in City custody.
At this time, the bicycle inventory includes about 250 bikes eligible for disposal. The inventory is higher than might be expected as bikes have not been sold or given away for over a year.
The first disposal is scheduled for October 5, 2007. Two organizations, the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, and the Bike Project, have requested to receive bicycles. The Bike Project expects to take 75 bicycles, and Don Moyer has indicated they will take 50 bicycles.
