The Champaign Police Department hosted the first of many neighborhood meetings at Clark Park on August 21, 2007. Future meetings will be held at parks in various beats and districts from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Citizens are invited to stop by and meet Deputy Chief John Murphy and the District Commander for their area.

The meetings will provide an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns and provide suggestions for improving safety in their neighborhoods. Citizen contributions will be used by department command staff to deliver specific police resources based on the community’s needs. Additionally, these meetings are an opportunity for citizens to ask questions and become more familiar with departmental operating procedures. Citizens should look for the yellow “Champaign Police” awning at each location.

Scheduled meeting dates and locations are as follows:
Aug 21, 2007 Clark Park
Aug 23, 2007 Citizens Park
Aug 28, 2007 Spaulding Park
Aug 30, 2007 Scott Park

The focus of the dialogues is to devise communication mechanisms that could facilitate stronger ongoing relationships between the police department and U of IL students.
