Sewer Televising Activities in Ironwood and Surrounding Subdivisions
Public Works crews from the Operations Division Sewer Section have begun televising sanitary sewers in the Ironwood subdivision. The lines are cleaned prior to televising when a recorded visual image of the sewer line is developed. This visual record is part of the multi-year program with a goal of televising 90,000 feet of sewer lines annually. Televising is accomplished by inserting a camera in the lines at access manholes installed in the sewer systems.Manholes are required to be installed at grade to allow access to the pipes for cleaning and servicing the underground sewer lines.
Manholes and sewer lines are installed in easements or right-of-ways. While the distance between manholes varies based on a number of factors, they are installed about every 400 feet.
Staff is finding buried manholes in this area. These structures may have been covered during the property development or by landscapers. In some cases, homeowners may be unaware of the existence of the manhole on their property. When buried and obstructed manholes are identified, the manholes are raised to grade to allow easy access for cleaning and backup response. Some homeowners may be concerned or find the exposed manholes objectionable.
